Holborn Mosque has embarked on an annual fundraising campaign for the running costs of the house of Allah. You will be aware the mosque sustains the services through your kind donations. Alhamdulillah, through these donations the mosque is more or less maintaining the vital daily services. Not only do we want to maintain those vital services but we want to increase more services, Insha’Allah. Therefore, we have launched our campaign; The Holborn Mosque’s ‘Supporters’ Hive’.
The idea was inspired from the Qur’an and the Hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Allah says in (Surat an-Nahl (The Bee), 68-69):
“And your Lord taught the honey bee to build its cells in hills, on trees, and in (men’s) habitations; Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for men: verily in this is a Sign for those who give thought.”
It is generally known that honey is a fundamental food source for the human body, whereas only a few people are aware of the extraordinary features of its producer, the honeybee.
As known, food source of bees is nectar, which is not possible to be found during winter. For this reason, they combine the nectar collected in summer time with special secretions of their body, produce a new food substance, which is honey, and store it for the coming winter months.
It is noteworthy that the amount of honey stored by the bees is much more than their actual need. The question which comes to the mind is why this “excessive production”, which seems to be a waste of time and energy is not stopped? The answer to this question is hidden in the verse which states that the bee is “taught” so by the Lord.
Bees innately produce honey not only for themselves but also for the human beings. As a matter of fact, bees, like many other beings in nature, are offered to the service of man. Just like the chicken laying an egg every day although it does not need it, or the cow producing much more milk than its offspring needs.
Allah has blessed all of us with countless things including “sufficient wealth” to survive or have a good life so we’re able to worship Him. Allah therefore asks us to spend some of our wealth in His path. Holborn Mosque – Supporters’ Hive initiative will give you this perfect opportunity to invest for your akhira. Helping the mosque function and serve the community will reap many benefits to yourself and others; just like the honey benefits mankind.
There will be 9 hives, each containing 67 combs. Donors can purchase an outer comb for £100 or £1000 for the centre comb for themselves or their loved ones. Names will be printed and displayed in The Hive and put up in recognition for supporting the house of Allah.
Where is your money going towards?
Your generous donations will maintain the running of the mosque and all its vital daily activities.
– Weekly Classes / Halaqas for adults (men and women)
– Rent and Rates i.e. heating, water, telephone etc.)
– Annual maintenance of the centre (i.e. carpet wash etc.)
– Educational & Da’wah Resources
– Youth services
The annual running costs of the mosque are around £70.000 so your generous donations will carry the work forward Insha’Allah and will be like the ‘honey to the bees’ and ‘petrol to the cars’!
By donating and becoming Holborn Mosque’s Supporters’ Hive Member your reward is automatically guaranteed by Allah.
Allah states in Surah Baqarah verse 261:
‘’The charity of those who expend their wealth in the Way of Allah may be likened to a grain of corn, which produces seven ears and each ear yields a hundred grains. Likewise Allah develops manifold the charity of anyone He pleases, for He is All-Embracing, All-Wise.’’
Surah Baqarah verse 274:
‘’Those who spend of their goods (in charity) by night and by day in secret and in public shall have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve.’’
The Prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged is to donate in numerous ahadith, including:
Narrated by Adi bin Hatim he said the Messenger of Allah said:
‘’I heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) saying, “Save yourself from the (Hell) Fire even with half a date (to be given in charity); and if you do not find a half date, then with a good pleasant word.’’ (Bukhari)
Narrated by Asma:
Allah’s Messenger (saws) said, “Give (in charity) and do not give reluctantly lest Allah should give you in a limited amount; and do not withhold your money lest Allah should withhold it from you.” (Bukhari)
SADAQAH JARIYAH & GIVING TO THE MOSQUE
When you support the mosque through this campaign you will attain the rewards even after you leave this world. Your donations are a great investment for your hereafter.
Narrated by Abu Huraira:
‘’Allah’s Messenger as saying: When a man dies, his acts come to an end, but three, recurring charity or knowledge (by which people) benefit, or a pious son, who prays for him (for the deceased).’’ (Muslim)
Allah says: “… and spend something (in charity) out of the provision which we have bestowed you, before death should come to any of you and he should say, o my Rabb! Why do you not give me respite for a little while? I should then have given (largely) in charity, and I should have been one of the doers of good.” (Qur’an, 63:10)
